Thank you for keeping my neighborhood with Herndon-proper and Reston.

This map is preferable to the A2 and Barker maps, as it keeps the eastern part of the county in a Fairfax district. That region has no community of interest with Woodbridge or Quantico. Since 70000 Fairfax residents need to be in a district that crosses into PW or Loudoun, there is more COI in the Chantilly/South Riding, Centerville/Manassas, Herndon/Sterling areas than anything that would cross the Occoquan River.

Again, a small part of South Arlington is included in a District heavily dominated by Alexandria. I would hope the Senate map could be redrawn to keep South Arlington and Fairlington in an Arlington District, the concerns of which are much more fitting than inclusion in a District domianted by Alexandria.

(1) To Commission members and mapmakers: I appreciate the hard work you're doing! This is a new process and difficult to do the first time. Thank you for your time and effort. I much prefer the new maps I've seen, compared with the current maps!
(2) Re using incumbent address data when drawing maps, pls don't. It doesn't bother me if multiple incumbents (Democrat or Republican) are mapped into the same district. It doesn't bother me if an incumbent (Democrat or Republican) is mapped out of his/her current district.
(3) I'm an Arlington resident. Thank you for keeping Arlington together on the Senate maps. That is an important criterion for me: as close to 1 state Senator as possible, so that Arlington can receive undivided attention and focus. And for those Arlington residents that need to be peeled away to make the numbers work, thank you for associating them with Alexandria, since Arlington and Alexandria work closely together and, I think, are more similar than Arlington and Fairfax County.
(4) I've placed additional comments related to the HOD on B2 NOVA HOD.
(5) Thank you for your consideration.

Why does District 9 have the rural, conservative, agricultural, part of Loudoun County in with the liberal, technological part of Loudoun County? It would make way more sense for District 9 to simply keep going across Loudoun as a whole. It shouldn't take in the slice of Clarke County, the northern part of Loudoun, and the eastern part of Loudoun like it does here. It makes it look like the eastern slice of Loudoun is only there to make D9 a Democrat district. Also, Clarke County probably isn't big enough to justify a county split.

This is terrible. Why does this district go out so far West? Vienna + Oakton is not connected to Oak Hill or half of Chantilly. It makes much more sense to include the GMU community since many people from Vienna and Oakton work and go to school there.

This region for District 3 looks good. The Town of Vienna's border and Chain Bridge Road is a reasonable border between Districts 3 and 6. Leesburg Pike is a reasonable border between Districts 7 and 6. And District 3 extends sufficiently far east and south to encompass the communities of interest in this region.

I prefer the A1/A2 maps. Please prioritize communities of interest over other factors such as incumbent protections. I worked on Capitol Hill for 25 years and I have seen first hand how damaging putting politics above principles can be. I appreciate your hard work and I am sure you will do the right thing and fulfill the mandate of VA voters to end gerrymandering in our state.

As I mentioned in my testimony to the Commission on 8/23/21, Arlington County has a population that supports one full Senate district, with some precincts/census blocks that would need to be included in a district with another jurisdiction. This map, like 1A, fulfills that vision. Arlingtonians will be represented by one Senator who will focus solely on the County; rather than having to share 3 Senators with other jurisdictions.
Christine F DeRosa
Based on testimony that I have heard and the comments that have been sent to the Commission, it looks like Fredericksburg and parts of Stafford County (including the Del Webb Community of Celebrate), and the campus of University of Mary Washington have been kept together in one Senate district. Thank you for respecting Communities of Interest .

I appreciate how compact and clean this map is. However, I think the A state Senate maps do a better job protecting communities of interest, so I ask that you use the A maps as your baseline for drawing the state Senate districts.
